God’s Blessing & Provision: All Who Call on the Name of the Lord Will be Saved

In the posts leading up to this, I discussed the balance between stewarding our resources for the difficult times ahead, while maintaining complete dependency on Yehovah’s provision during those times.  In Part 2, we looked at Joseph as a type of Messiah who foreshadows how Yehovah will provide for us during times of tribulation.  But all of this assumes one very important requirement on our part: Calling on the name of the Lord.

This is certainly not a new concept.  It might seem obvious to most.  But I hadn’t seen the full meaning of this principle until I put it into the perspective of tribulation.  What had been a wonderful spiritual understanding now took on literal significance.

Remember the description of the last days in Joel 2:30-32:

“I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke.  The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.  And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved…”

Christians use the word “saved” to mean coming into spiritual communion with Yehovah in this life and eternally, saved from the penalty of sin (which is death).  Our calling on the name of the Lord is required to begin this process.  In Acts 2:21 Peter declares that with the advent of Yeshua’s death and resurrection, this is now the case for not only Jews, but “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord.”

As we saw in the previous post, in Joseph’s day calling on Joseph was a literal requirement – those in peril of starvation due to the seven-year famine were required to ask Joseph for provisions from the King’s storehouses in order to survive.  There was no other option; this was their only hope of literal salvation from death.  I believe it will be literal for us again as the days grow darker and we near the prophesied tribulation.

Another scripture instructing us to call on the name of the Lord is Zechariah 9:13.  Both Joel 2 and Zechariah 9 are within the context of the coming tribulation and events that have not yet occurred.

A Community Calls on His Name

The following short video depicts a community literally calling on the name of the Lord during tribulation.  It is the testimony of a Muslim woman during the 2011 tsunami in Southeast Asia and a compelling witness to Yehovah’s salvation to everyone who calls on His name:

This woman, this community had not prepared for disaster, had not planned ahead to steward their resources for an impending threat.  They had nothing – no emergency stash, no community plan for escape during disasters, no insurance, savings or investments to fall back on, not even a god they could depend on.  This woman had been living as a Muslim, but called on our Jewish Messiah – Jesus – and He saved her!  How much more will He rescue those who follow Him and call on his name?

This video is a graphic demonstration of what it looks like to literally call on the name of the Lord and the result when we do.  He is our refuge, our rock and strong fortress.  Nothing else we do to save ourselves is as powerful as calling on His name.

So, why wait?  Yehovah’s salvation and provision is as real in the physical, emotional, financial and every other area of our life as it was during the disaster in that video.  Make it a habit now to literally call on His name, and you’ll build your faith and reliance on Him for the turbulence ahead.

Psalm 91:14-16

“Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.  He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.  With a long life I will satisfy him and let him see My salvation.”
