A daily break to celebrate our salvation in Yeshua (Jesus) and our abundant life through the Torah

Taking Back our Authority, Part 2

We tend to think of Yeshua’s suffering and his blood in terms of forgiveness of our sins, because he shed his innocent and holy blood to atone for us. This is absolutely true.  But that is just the beginning. We also know that it justified us, sanctified us, cleansed us and so many other things spiritually. Ultimately it puts us in right standing before the Almighty God, so we can be in direct fellowship with him in everlasting life.

That is beyond comprehension, and I am so grateful for that. And… there’s even more – much more.

In Part 1, we saw that Yeshua has given us authority over the enemy and is counting on us to use it as we partner with him in bringing his kingdom to earth.  Now I want to focus on how the blood that Yeshua shed gives us even more power than we realize.

We know that his blood reversed the curse – the curse of sin and death.  He tells Martha at Lazarus’ resurrection:

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’ ” John 11:25-26

With his blood, the wages of sin no longer have to be death. The sin in the Garden of Eden doesn’t have to mean eternal death.

We also know that “by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5  Why is that?  How is it that his wounds make us whole?  It’s because there is power in his holy blood being willingly shed in righteousness. Sacrificial willing obedience out of righteousness and love defeats the enemy.

But Yeshua didn’t only shed his blood when he was whipped and while he was on the cross. He was bleeding before he got to the cross. He actually bled six times before the cross and three times on the cross:

  • The scourging
  • The crown of thorns
  • Plucking out his beard
  • Striking his head and face
  • In the Garden of Gethsemane
  • At his circumcision
  • On the cross he bled from his hands and feet and from his pierced side.

Every time he bled, he was shedding that same holy blood. So if his blood on the cross reversed the law of sin and death, and his stripes reverse our disease and illness, what did his blood do in all those other places? It also reversed the curse in all those places!  It’s the same principle with each of the times Yeshua shed his blood.

Let’s think about the areas he bled and what exactly was reversed by Yeshua’s victory over the enemy in those places.

1. His circumcision represented him perfectly keeping the law, which now brings us righteousness – he is our righteousness before the Father. Our righteousness is like filthy rags (Is. 64:6), but his righteousness reverses our standing with God. (Eph. 1:3-6)

2. When he bled in the Garden of Gethsemane, standing firm in his mission despite fear and dread and anguish, he reversed the curse on the ground from the Garden of Eden. We now have power over the earth for provision and power to bruise the head of the serpent that was declared in the Garden of Eden. (Gen. 3:15)

3. Our face and head represent our countenance, our mouth, our mind. When he bled from his face and head from the blows from the Roman soldiers without defending himself, it broke the power of the enemy over our minds, our words and our testimony. Our words are now victorious over the enemy. Rev. 12:11, “They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

4. A beard signifies wisdom, dignity, maturity. When Yeshua let them pluck his beard* and suffered insults, shame and humiliation, his blood overcame the enemy’s power over us in these areas. He restored our honor and dignity and favor in the face of the enemy.
(*See Is. 50:6; while not mentioned in the gospels, just as with hitting, jeering and spitting, tearing the beard was part of the customary treatment of those who were to be crucified.)

5. A crown represents authority and kingship, honor and position. When he willingly bled from the crown of thorns, he restored our authority, power and our position to reign on the earth. Rev. 5:10, “he has made us a kingdom of priests to our God, and we shall reign on the earth.”

6. And when he succumbed to the cross, the blood from his feet gave authority back to our feet.

Josh. 1:3, “I will give you every place where you set your foot.”

Is. 52:7,  “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’ ”

Ps. 91:13,  “You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample under foot.”

We can proclaim good news and peace and salvation wherever we go, because we have the power over the enemy everywhere we go. “Greater is he that is within us than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

7. When he bled from his pierced hands, He reversed the curse of the work of our hands. Our spiritual labors are now fruitful, and we are no longer slaves to sin, but slaves to righteousness. This was David’s prayer in Ps. 90:17, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”

8. When his side was pierced and blood came from his side, remember that the Father created new life from Adam’s side. Yeshua’s death gave us all new life, and we now have the authority to bring others to new life through his blood. (Gen. 2:21-22)

9. As we said “by his stripes we are healed” (Is. 53:5) because there is power in his holy blood being willingly shed in righteousness.

It’s the same principle with all of these places where Yeshua shed his blood. These are all areas of life that he has reclaimed for us by his suffering. And these are all areas in which we are expected to use the authority that he suffered to give us.

This is why he was willingly “led like a lamb to the slaughter” and was “silent before his shearers” (Is. 53:7) – because he knew that as he shed his righteous blood in all these places, he was defeating the enemy on our behalf, once and for all. We now have this authority for all time in all these places.

He wasn’t only aiming for the cross to have our sins forgiven. No, with every beating, hitting, piercing, nailing, he withstood it, because he was accumulating victory and power and authority to give to us.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 is a familiar verse, but listen to it fresh with this perspective.

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”

This is what Yeshua did – fulfilled all obedience. This is how he “punished all disobedience, when his obedience was fulfilled” – obedient in life and obedient in death. This is what gives US power now.

The disciples picked up that mantle and carried it forward and fulfilled the great commission in their generation. There’s absolutely nothing stopping us from doing the same thing. It’s the same power now as it was then.

Romans 5:17

“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Yeshua HaMashiach!”

This is how we reign in life, not just in eternity, but here and now – by using our power and authority to reign over the enemy in our own life, in the lives of others, and in the world around us.

If you’re not already praying with the authority of Yeshua’s blood over yourself and your loved ones, I have included a prayer here that you can take and use and adapt to your own life. This prayer covers what we discussed in Parts 1 and 2.  Ask the Lord who is ready for his transformation, and then pray diligently to release the enemy’s hold and bring them into abundant new life.

The concept of the 9 places of blood is adapted from Karl Falken, as well as parts of the prayer.
