A daily break in your day to celebrate our salvation in Yeshua (Jesus) and our abundant life through the Torah

God’s Love

Deuteronomy, The Book Of Love

What do you see in this image? What you see depends on your point of view, your perspective.

There’s both a white vase and a two black profiles, but one of them stands out depending on the way you see things.

This same principle applies when we read the Bible. We read it from a certain perspective. It may be a preconceived notion we have. It may be through a filter of how we’ve come to understand a certain passage. It may be a perspective we were taught. If we’d never read the Bible and pick it up one day, we’ll see things through our own experiences, sensitivities, fears, orientation to life and our notions of God.

My Song of Solomon Love Song

As I looked out my window and reflected on all the beautiful things God had made and how much joy they bring me, I wished I could be as pleasing to Him as those are to me.  I sang a song: (more…)

Abraham, Isaac and Jasher: The Story of a Son Loving a Father

DAN_0109To many, the account of Abraham offering up Isaac to God in Genesis 22 is one of the hardest stories in the Bible to read and comprehend.  You don’t have to be a parent to feel the anguish Abraham must have felt, to question how he could attempt such a heartbreaking act, and even to doubt the goodness of God.

In addition to the emotion it raises, there are several unanswered logical mysteries as well.  What did Abraham tell Isaac they were doing?  Was Isaac really that gullible?  The fact that Abraham had Isaac carry the wood up the mountain indicates that Isaac was stronger than Abraham.  How did Abraham wrestle him onto the altar?  Furthermore, the surrounding information indicates Isaac would’ve been an adult, probably near 37 years old.  Just how did Abraham get him to go along with this preposterous plan?  There are enough holes in the report to make us wonder if we’re really hearing the whole story.  (more…)

Receiving God’s Gifts

3I had always received things from God in terms of their value for others, not fully embracing their value for myself.  There had to be a practical reason for everything, including the talents and desires God gave me. As an example, although I wanted to take voice lessons, I found it difficult to get motivated, because I didn’t know what I would do with the singing once I learned how. It wasn’t enough that I just wanted to learn to sing.

One day in casual conversation, I found that a friend of mine spent a lot of time growing bamboo. My first question was, “What’s the commercial market for bamboo?” (more…)

God Answers Prayer in Surprising Ways

Fall Mountain Sunrise, Grand TetonsAt one point, I committed to praying on a weekly basis for several of my friends and family to come to faith in Yeshua as their savior.  I did so for six months.  Once I started praying, I began looking for signs of a change in their spiritual perspectives, and for opportunities to speak with them about Yeshua.  This story is another example of how prayer changes not only the lives of those for whom the prayer is offered, but the one praying as well.

During those six months, I saw miraculous things.  (more…)
